Christkindlmarkt 2016 | Tuesdays with Jacob

Christkindlmarkt 2016

December 4, 2016

This weekend our little family got the chance to go together to our local Christkindlmarkt. Getting to go anywhere all three of us is pretty rare, so these are some of my very favorite times. Christkindlmarkts originated in Germany in the 1500s and our local American German club keeps the tradition alive even here in sunny Florida. It might not be quite as magical as it is in Germany with fresh snow, but it's a lot warmer, so we'll take it! Every year little man understand more and more about the holiday season which makes every year even more fun than the year before - even though I always think that just isn't possible!

There was so much to see and do, Jacob was wide eyed almost the whole time. He got to make and decorate cookies, then eat them after they were cooked, create ornaments, ride the carousel, and meet Santa Clause!

Once the sun went down it was time for the lantern parade and tree lighting. Watching Jacob carry his little lantern in the parade with all the big kids made my heart swell with joy. The light from his lantern lit up his sweet face and made me momentarily forget that we're in the middle of the terrible twos.

Seeing the holidays from your child's point of view makes everything so much more meaningful. Everything is exciting and seeing his eyes full of wonder is really my favorite thing. We have so many traditions we're going to pass down to little guy from our own childhoods and the Christkindlmarkt was such a fun way to start off the season. We've already planned a polar express ride for our train-obsessed little man, along with a breakfast with Santa. Later this week we'll join some friends for a hot chocolate stroll to see Christmas lights and before you know it we'll be leaving out cookies for Santa.

What holiday tradition do you most look forward to? I'd love to hear some new ideas!
