Tuesdays with Jacob: 12 Weeks Old

September 9, 2014

Football is back! You are ready for your first football season to kickoff! The Eagles won their first game of the season so your praying paid off!!

praying for an Eagles win!

Besides football kickoff, this Sunday is also grandparents day. Since you are now good at grabbing things I decided to see if I could get you to hold a crayon. And you did! You made these pictures to mail to your grandparents :)

You are growing stronger and more in control of your muscles every day!

You are obsessed with your hands! You try so hard to get your thumb into your mouth but you haven't quite figured it out yet. You usually end up just sucking on the whole fist.

Your hair is more mohawk like by the minute ;)

we took you in our neighborhood pool for the first time this week. Mommy is hoping that if we take you often you won't be afraid of the water.

Swimming wore you right out because you went to bed early and slept for 9 hours!

Mommy has started to get you into a bed time routine - bath, pjs, story, milk snack and then into bed.

Mommy let you watch your Praise Baby DVD from Susan for the first time this week so she could make some lunch without holding you and you loved it!!

On Sunday you went to the nursery at church for the first time!! Leaving you with Deanna made it much easier!

After service we enjoyed the church picnic with the Gills while you slept!

We were without tv for a day this week since we were switching providers. It was a hard day, mommy didn't realize how much she depends on TV to entertain her while you nurse! We rented a bunch of redbox movies and went out for ice cream to pass the time!

Lets. Get. Real.

September 4, 2014
#letsgetrealmoms is a movement started by my best friend Brittany over at Little Mountain Momma. For the full story check out her post here. The gist of it is this - Some of us (*ahem* ME) spend an awful lot of our time 'staging' our lives and pictures of our lives so they look just so. Look at my perfectly happy, adorable, child in my perfectly clean and organized home. Do you know what I'm talking about? I bet some of you do. #letsgetrealmoms was created to encourage openess and encouragement among moms. By sharing the sad, messy, real moments of life we show others
you are not alone.

Here are a few of my "get real" moments, since becoming a mom.

Trying to get pregnant isn't always fun and games. Sometimes it's needles and doctors and hormone pills. And that's ok.

Sometimes babies cry. and cry. and cry. For no reason. Not because you're doing something wrong. And that's ok.

Your baby might pee all over his cute holiday outfit you specifically ordered for such an occasion and have to wear the spare. That's ok.

Sometimes, in an effort to preserve modesty, you have to get under the nursing cover with your baby. And that's ok.

Your baby might not nap anywhere but their swing. And that's ok.

Sometimes your kid might projectile vomit on you three times in ten minutes and you might have to put him in your least favorite outfit in case it happens again. That's ok!

You might have to drag the baby into the bathroom to actually get in a shower. That's ok too.

Sometimes the only thing that will soothe a baby is sucking on a pacifier. Even if you swore you would never give your kid a pacifier. Yup, that's ok.

Sometimes you might have to desperately run through the drive through while the baby is sleeping. That's ok!

You might need "just one more" cup of coffee before you're able to dress the baby properly. That's ok too.

Your baby might reach milestones before or after other babies his age. That's ok. (and not cause for alarm)

Your milk production might be wildly uneven. That's ok! (and normal they tell me)

Your kid might make obscene gestures sometimes, that you swear you didn't teach him. That's ok.

Your kid probably makes you laugh sometimes. That's definitely ok.

He or she probably makes you cry sometimes too. And that's ok.

At the end of the day, it's ok. It's enough. You're enough.
And you're doing ok, mom.
