Spring Break Faves: Kiddo Edition

All right friends, it's crunch time for spring break! I shared all my momma faves earlier this week, but we can't forget about the kiddos! I swear I always end up packing twice as much stuff for my kid as I do for myself. Going to the beach with kids pretty much requires you to bring your entire house am I right? I mean, you might as well just move in. We just picked up a beach buggy to cart all our stuff down to the water, and you can see some of our favorite gear and toys below. When figuring out what my kid is going to wear I always look for maximum sun protection in clothing. And whatever you do, wherever you go, for heavens sake don't forget the snacks. Spring Break Faves: Momma Edition

It's been a while since I've shared a round up of our favorite things, and since I've got spring break on the brain (3 days and counting!!) I thought I'd share a few of the things I'm swooning over. Most of these have made their way into my online shopping cart this past week and as you can tell, I'm loving rose gold for spring. We're headed to the beach again this year, but we're super excited to explore a new island we've never been to here in our home state. Barefoot & Cozy

It's the most wonderful time of the year. And seeing it through Jacob's eyes makes it the most magical time of the year. Every time we see a bearded man he shouts "Santa Claus!" whether the recipient is happy about it or not. He's so into EVERYTHING. Lights, presents, reindeer, carols, you name it, he loves it. He demands Christmas songs every time we get in the car, and lucky for us that's not a hard request to fill this time of year. He wants to be right in the middle of the action of whatever we are doing, and we wouldn't have it any other way. 

We've steadily been checking things off our bucket list, a few at a time each weekend since our weekdays are go, go, go, right up until the days before Christmas. There's nothing we love more than a day full of festive fun. Here are just a few of our favorite traditions, we'd love to hear some of yours! 

1. Hanging lights outside. While we don't get that magical look of sparkling lights on fresh fallen snow here in Florida, we hang our lights just the same. There's something so welcoming to arriving home under the soft glow of the bulbs. Nothing puts us in a more festive mood. We get ours up lining the roof as soon as the Halloween lights come down. 

2. Putting up the Christmas Tree. We've always done a fake tree with the heat and humidity, but this year we got a new flocked tree. We had to set it up outside, since it shed quite a bit in the fluffing process. I don't think Jacob was expecting the fake snow! Once we got it inside Jacob was all about helping with the lights and ornaments, the latter of which he hung all clustered on one branch. And I think we might just leave them that way. 

3. Movie Nights. We try to sneak in one of these every weekend. We curl up on the couch with one of our big, cozy blankets and turn off all the lights. Then we watch a Christmas movie by the glow of the tree. We pop popcorn and snuggle up all together. We try to cycle through all the classics, plus catch any new originals on Hallmark or Freeform. The Grinch is Jacob's favorite, Home Alone is mine. 

4. Light Tour. We try at least once every year to get out and see everyone else's lights. We take a walk around the neighborhood, pulling Jacob in the wagon, or we make a trip out to our local gardens where they cover the grounds in twinkling lights. We take a mug of hot cocoa or coffee and let Jacob run around while we take in all the lights. I love that it's something special that you can really only do this time of year. 

5. Gingerbread Houses and Cookies. We always bake a few batches of cookies and decorate a house each year. These are two of Jacob's favorite things to help with. He'll sit up on the counter in his Santa apron and pour in all the ingredients, mix it up, and then help me get the dough onto the baking sheet. Decorating with him is almost always a mess with icing, candies, and sprinkles everywhere, but he has a blast. 

6. Christmas Jammies. Every year we pick out a new pair of Christmas Jammies, and we give them to him on Christmas eve along with a new Christmas movie to watch, a mug, popcorn and hot cocoa. We call it our Christmas Eve Box and it's so fun to let Jacob open that one present on Christmas eve, to get him excited for the following day. Cozy Winter Favorites

I'm not sure there is any word in the English language that has stronger imagery for me than the word cozy. Don't you just immediately think of being curled up by a fire with a soft blanket, a big mug of hot chocolate, and a good book while snow falls softly outside? I only get maybe two days of cozy weather here in Florida, and then I have to get my fix in Michigan. Here are a few of my favorite winter items, perfectly for snuggling!

I wear the sweatshirt (the softest!), pajama pants and slippers ALL the time, even when it's not chilly, and I love hot cocoa from my  city mug in the morning. The candle, hat, & socks are all on my Christmas list! What's on yours? 

Halloween Styles for Little Men

Jacob fell in love with Halloween last year - hook, line, and sinker. If it was up to him we'd be trick or treating every night, all year long. He doesn't quite understand why it's allowed on one night, but not all the others, (he's only 3 after all) so we make sure to fill the month of October with as much Halloween magic as we can. Which means we've already pulled all our festive apparel out of his closet and have been wearing it on the regular. Here are some of our favorites!

Back to School Styles for Little Men

We've got just a few weeks now until Jacob starts preschool and we've been having so much fun getting ready. He loves to tell us how we're going to "drop him off and say bye" to him. Needless to say he's ready  for all the fun! This will be the only year before he enters our public school system and has to wear a uniform so it's really our only chance to go back to school shopping for clothes. We had to take a few things into consideration, the first being that he will be going to the bathroom all by himself. He's been potty trained for over a year now, but we definitely help a lot with the clothing aspects of it. All of the bottoms here are elastic waist for ease at potty breaks. We've also grabbed some of our favorite underwear from Carters, they just seem to fit him the best and be easiest to get off and on. The second thing that we can count on is that it will be hot well into the fall and even the winter. We've added a few layering pieces for the winter months, but otherwise kept things light. 

This is where I admit to you that once upon a time I didn't think dressing a boy would be any fun. Oh how wrong I was! We also picked up a sturdy Pottery Barn Kids backpack that we're hoping will last a few years, and a new pair of our favorite sneakers since his feet are growing like crazy lately. We're all packed up and hitting the road for a long 4th of July weekend at the lake. Heavens, I'm not sure there is anything more patriotic than a suitcase full of red, white and blue. Valentine Looks for Little Men

It's just a little over a week now until February which brings both my birthday and all things Valentine's. Haters call it a hallmark holiday, but I love celebrating all things LOVE. I've got lots of fun crafts and baking planned for the coming weeks, but today I've rounded up some festive looks for the little men in your life. Is it just me or is there always 10x more valentine's stuff for girls? I love a good challenge and I'm in smitten with these looks! I like to accessorize red and pink with shades of navy, black and gray to keep things masculine and fun.

Jacob wore his "Little Guy. Big Heart." tee to story time at the library this week. He loves playing with all the library's toys and the other kids and it's always a pain to get him out of there at the end without screaming. Thankfully we had made a coffee run prior and I still had cake pops to lure him out with minimal fuss. They were supposed to be for after dinner but, you do what you gotta do.
