This past Sunday we packed our cooler and headed to the park to celebrate the fact that Momma doesn't have to go to work in the morning! We named it our "Welcome summer" BBQ and it's going to be a tradition from now on!

We loaded our cooler up with all of our favorite picnic essentials:
Chicken Drumsticks with BBQ glaze
Corn on the Cob with honey butter
Watermelon
Macaroni Salad
Baked Beans
Chips
Iced Tea
Cake

and we packed all of our grilling and picnic tools:
table cloth
plates
forks
cups
tongs
grill scrub brush
foil
charcoal
lighter fluid
lighter
Viva® Towels

We actually brought two packs of paper towels with us - one pack of Viva® Towel and one pack of Viva® Vantage® Towels. Thank heavens! We used them all BBQ long. Viva® Vantage® Towels have a stretchy, woven texture that is perfect for scrubbing, we used them to clean off both the grill and the stone picnic table and benches. Viva® Towels have a soft, smooth texture perfect for cleaning up spills and little faces.

Before packing up I slathered our corn in honey butter - equal parts honey and butter, then sprinkled them with salt and pepper. I used throw away foil pans with lids to transport both the corn and the chicken drumsticks. I warmed up the baked beans ahead of time and then transported them in a thermos to stay warm. Everything else stayed in it's own packaging.

When we got to the park our first order of business was to get the charcoal into the grill and light them since they take a while to warm up. While Daddy did that, I wiped down the picnic table with Viva® Vantage® Towels, covered it with a table cloth, (the tables are otherwise VERY dirty) and set everything out. Little man played with his new football while we set up.

Once the grill was ready Jacob helped Daddy get the chicken and corn on while I mixed up our BBQ sauce.

Our favorite BBQ Sauce is super easy to make!

1 part peach preserves
2 parts BBQ sauce
Mix until smooth!

For our six pack of drumsticks I used 1/4 cup of peach preserves and a 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce which was the perfect amount. It's sticky, sweet, and delicious! Daddy brushed in on once it was mixed up and ready.

We brushed the chicken several times with the BBQ sauce as it cooked, to really cake it on there.

Jacob couldn't quite wait until everything was done and started sneaking some snacks when he thought we weren't looking. Luckily I caught him in time to wipe his hands down with a soft Viva® Towel - they had gotten filthy from playing with his football.

Once everything was cooked, we sat down to eat, and boy did Jacob enjoy his food!

We ended with a S'mores cake - a foreshadowing of all the gooey treats we'll be roasting this summer!

He was an absolute MESS by the time we were finished. His whole face was covered!

Thankfully we had brought both rolls of Viva® Towels and Viva® Vantage® Towels with us. They are our favorite because they are so soft, and little man willingly lets us wipe his face and hands. That is, when he isn't demanding to do it himself!

I think even he was a little surprised by how much of a mess his face was!

Preparing for our BBQ was super easy since I was able to get everything all at once at our favorite spot - Publix! Little man loves the free cookies in the bakery, and I love the car loading service they provide.

We had so much fun we've already discussed having more BBQs this summer AND decided to make this our annual start of summer tradition.
